1/31/10 - This coming week the team will be on a regular film and practice schedule. On Friday we will meet St. Thomas on their turf in Houston for a Friday Night match starting around 7:00, then on Saturday we will play a Second Side game. Our team will leave from the WHS Tennis Center parking lot at 3:30 PM, players need to make the necessary arrangements to leave school early. More on the overnight plans at practice on Monday.

This will be our first full week of regular season practices culminating with competitive matches on Saturday. After two days of practice and an intra-club scrimmage last week, the coaches have reported that the team is way ahead of where we were this time last year. New players are still invited to come out to practice to see if they would like to join our team.
The second annual Capitol City Slugfest Tournament will be held this coming Saturday (1/16) in Chaparral Stadium starting at 10:00 AM. Tournament entries will include Westlake, Stony Point, Alamo Heights and Austin Area. Last year the tournament ended with each team posting the same record; however, Westlake took home the 1st Place trophy based on most points scored. As tournament hosts, Westlake will be in charge of the post tournament social. Food and drinks will be provided to the team players, coaches and referees after the awards ceremony. Thanks to Sarita Kuykendall for serving as our team social coordinator this season.

Westlake Rugby Clinic will be held Sunday, December 20th @ 3:30 PM - Practice Fields. New and experienced players encouraged to attend this pre-season opportunity to go over rugby rules, safety, and new techniques. Meet the coaching staff and go over season schedule and sign-up.

Attention all new and returning Westlake High School Rugby Players and Parents:
The Westlake Rugby season will officially begin on January 4, 2010. Our first matches are scheduled for January 16th. This will be Westlake’s second rugby season following a very successful inaugural year. All interested Westlake High School players and parents are invited to attend an information meeting on Wednesday, December 9th in the Chap Room (#250) at the high school starting at 6:00 PM. We know this is a busy time for students including varsity football players, so for those with conflicts, be sure to send a parent to hear about the program and to provide us with your contact & registration information.
Items to be covered will include the Texas high school rugby conference, our 2010 match schedule, practice dates and times, player expectations, registration and dues, and parent volunteers. Bring your questions and invite other interested WHS players (grades 9 -12) to attend as well.
Then, on Sunday, December 20th, 4:00 PM till dusk, the coaches will hold a clinic for our players to go over rugby rules, positions, and drills. This clinic will be for all players (rookies to experienced).
In keeping in the Westlake tradition, we are looking forward to a highly successful 2010 season. Go Chaps!
